Tools can be easily damaged over time. Often this is an unplanned investment in the home. But it is not necessary to buy new equipment immediately. In many cases, the problem can be solved by repair. This also applies to dryers.
Here are five of the most common causes of dryer failure and how you can optimally and independently fix the problem.
Clothes Are Not Drying Properly
It's frustrating when your clothes don't dry properly and you often think your machine is running too slowly. But the reality is that we often don't carry out regular maintenance. In fact, if you give it a fresh dose of drying, it will still work in most cases.
It is important to carry out regular maintenance, such as emptying the sound filter, cleaning the condenser and checking the water drain. It's not much, but they are important for the dryer to work properly. After all, it's the only way to dry with the lowest possible energy consumption.
Water Container Does Not Work
If the water tank does not refill from time to time, there may be several reasons. The most common problem is usually a clogged pipe. However, this problem can only occur in dryers with a sloping water tank.
Due to the design of the unit, water is first collected in the lower tank and then pumped to the upper tank. Of course, the tank always has a belt lock. Over time, however, the waste accumulates to such an extent that it cannot be pumped out and gradually builds up in the tank.
The Dryer Is Not Heating Up
You will soon notice that the dryer no longer heats up. When the dryer cools down, the laundry is still as damp as when you put it in the dryer. However, this is not due to the heating element or heater, as in a washing machine, but to the power of the thermostat connected to it. Both types of thermostats can become brittle and break down over time.
Replacing the thermostat is not a big problem as the back of the dryer can usually be removed. This makes it very easy to replace it.
Dryer Not Spinning
If the dryer is not spinning, your clothes may not dry properly. If the washer-dryer is running quietly, it's easy to spot the problem. Experienced users may have noticed that the drum spins much slower and more gently than usual.
However, this can be easily checked by removing the cover. If the drive belt is no longer visible, it is defective and should be replaced. If the belt is intact but still moves on the pulleys, it should be replaced. If the belt does not move or moves only slightly, the pulleys are usually damaged and the belt is jammed.
Closed Water Tank
If the indicator on the water tank is flashing, the problem can usually be solved by cleaning the tank and pump. However, sometimes the pump itself may be damaged. If this is the case, it must be replaced before the dryer can be used again.
The pump can be easily checked by disconnecting the drain hose (at the bottom of the back of the unit) and placing it in a bucket to collect water. If there is no water after starting, but all hoses are clean and the bucket is clean, then the condensate pump is defective and needs to be replaced.
The above five reasons are the most common reasons why modern dryers break down. Of course, the fault in a particular case can always be quite different. But this can only be judged on a case-by-case basis. However, before you immediately dispose of the appliance, it's worth checking and trying to repair dryer in any case. With a bit of manual skill, a new purchase can perhaps be postponed indefinitely.
