The Friend of the earth certification scheme for sustainable agriculture & farming was a first initiative by Paolo Bray, founder and director of the world sustainability organization & developed according to SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems) guidelines issued by the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization). It is based on principles that are basically focus on protection and conservation of ecosystem for promoting biological control, livestock biodiversity and genetic heritage to foster a close link between animals and territory.
