The book tells the story of Emmanuel, a con-man who pretends to be a medical doctor in the U.S. He lies to his parents about his credentials and asks them to find him a nurse or doctor to marry. His parents, unaware of medical uniforms, mistakenly match him with Barbra, a maid posing as a nurse practitioner. Emmanuel and Barbra marry and move to the U.S., but Emmanuel soon discovers Barbra's true identity. During an argument, Barbra learns that Emmanuel is actually a taxi driver, not a doctor. She leaves and is helped by Oluoma sees Barbra's good qualities and proposes to her. Barbra accepts, realizing that life can unexpectedly turn around for the better. The story concludes with a message of resilience and the idea that it's okay to face setbacks and uncertainties.
