hildren with chronic conditions often face a number of challenges that other children do not. They may have difficulty succeeding in school, making and keeping friends, and maintaining a positive self-image. In addition, they are at increased risk for developing mental disorders. 

Researchers estimate that up to one-third of children with chronic medical conditions also have neurodevelopmental or mental disorders. The most common disorders include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and depression. 

There are a number of effective treatments for these disorders, but access to care can be a challenge. Many families do not have the resources or knowledge to seek out treatment.
